Public holidays over the Easter long weekend

With Easter just around the corner, questions about the public holiday status over the long weekend inevitably arise.

In New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory, there are four public holidays over the Easter period in 2019:

  • Good Friday – 19 April
  • Easter Saturday – 20 April
  • Easter Sunday – 21 April
  • Easter Monday – 22 April

So, if your agency is located in one of these jurisdictions and trades on public holidays, employees who are normally required to work on these days will be entitled to public holiday rates of pay. This may be relevant if your agency intends to trade on Easter Saturday. However, if your office is closed over Easter, then normal rates of pay apply.

If you agency is located in a different jurisdiction, give the REEF Helpline a call on 1300 616 170. We’ll be able to advise of the arrangements relevant to you.
